Dutch royals out in force for birthday Gala

The Dutch royal family was out in full force Friday afternoon for the double birthday bash for Queen Beatrix (70) and Princess Margriet (65). The royals arrived by boat at the Royal Theater Carré, on the Amstel River in Amsterdam.

* Hurrah, hurrah! The Dutch royal family joins the audience of 1,000-plus in the Theater in a prerehearsed singing of 'Happy Birthday' to Queen Beatrix and Princess Margriet.

They proceeded on foot to the theater, where at the suggestion of Queen Beatrix both royal sisters hosted a "Gala" for over 1,000 guests. On the programme were performances of talented youngsters from all Dutch academies and conservatoria for the arts.
