Dutch RF skips coronation King of Tonga

The Dutch royal family will be represented at the August coronation of King Siasosi (George) Tupou V by the Netherlands ambassador to the Kingdom of Tonga. The King, who succeeded his father King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV in September 2006, had send a personal invitation to the Dutch royals.

Newkingtonga1 King George Tupou V also invited the royal families of Britain, Bhutan, Monaco, Norway and Thailand, along with the imperial family of Japan, to attend the ceremony at the FWC Centenary Church in Tonga’s capital Nuku’alofa on August 1, officials in the tiny Pacific kingdom disclosed last month.

The coronation was postponed after riots ravaged the capital, with many houses and building being destroyed after Tongans vented their frustration at the slow pace of political reform in the Kingdom.
