,,Just keep on walking." Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands doesn’t have any secrets or magic potions to keep up with her unusually busy schedule of these weeks.
The Queen’s Day ‘marathon’ in Friesland, Memorial Day, Liberation Day, the wedding of Princess Margarita, an area visit to the province of Drenthe and next week a State Visit to Estonia. ,,You just get up in the morning en keep going", the 70-year old queen explained her recipe for endurance.
,,But seriously", she continued in a brief meeting with Dutch journalist at the end of her one day visit to the heart and north of Drenthe, she gets inspiration and energy from these visits. The stories people tell her, the work they do, the things she sees - and on top of that the visit took part on a sun filled day.
It is the province - the Netherlands has twelve of them - that invites the queen for a so-called "area visit", or "streekbezoek". The idea is that the cities see the monarch more often than the countryside, the area between the towns. Two or three times a year Bearix goes on an area visit; with the privince showcasting its success stories or new developments.
In Drenthe it was a new approach to nature conservation, the blending in of tens of thousand low frequency antennas for research of the milky way in the landscape, and youth and special health care that featured on the agenda. Inspirational and emotional, Queen Beatrix said at the end of the day.
