Queen Sofia demonstrated her love for animals during a visit to a foundation for the protection of donkeys in Rute, in the southern Spanish province of Cordoba. The queen baptised the few months old donkey ‘Lluvia’ (rain).
Queen Sofia had planned to visit the ‘Casa del Burro’ eight years ago, but her visit had to be cancelled because of bad weather. This time though nothing stood in her way and she even promised to bring her grandchildren along next time.
After visiting a small outdoor exhibit of a local artist, who got his inspiration from the animals and whose paintings are produced by the animals themselves, the Queen got a closer look at the donkeys. ‘Veteran’ Mandela, ten years old and the first animal at the sanctuary, returned the royal attention and affection gratefully and graciously. © GPD; Source: Diario de Sevilla; Photos by © GPD AP
