Haakon on 'goodwill' mission to Mongolia

Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon is already the third royal visitor to Mongolia this year, following in the footsteps of his friend Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Monaco’s Prince Albert, who visited this Asian country in August, on a side trip from the Olympics in Beijing.

Mongoliahaakon Norway and Mongolia established diplomatic relations forty years ago, in January 1968. Crown Prince Haakon is in Ulaanbaatar in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Plan.

"I accepted the invitation to become a Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP, because I strongly believe that all people are equal and should have equal rights to realize their potential as human beings," said the heir to the Norwegian throne during a visit to Burundi with UNDP in October 2007. © GPD (AP)
