Princess Marie of Denmark visited Nochlezkha, a charity organization for the homeless in St. Petersburg, Russia, Thursday. She spoke with those providing care and with people who have found (temporary) shelter with Nochlezhka, the Russian word for shelter. Marie and her husband Prince Joachim are on a week long tour of Russia.
British Prince Michael of Kent has been patron of Nochlezhka, a charity that has strong links with Big Issue in Scotland and that provides help to homeless people in St. Petersburg and operates a 50-bed shelter located at 112B Borovaya Ulitsa, as well as other services.
Nochlezhka has been operating in Russia for more than 18 years, helping those who are living in extreme poverty and are deprived of access to housing, medical help and employment.
There are more than 50,000 such people in St. Petersburg, acoording to the local media. Every year, Nochlezhka’s day service provides social consultations and medical help for more than 10,000 homeless people. © GPD; Photos by © GPD AP
