Queen Sofia took to sea to support her son Prince Felipe in the first races of the 29th edition of the King's Cup in the bay of Palma de Mallorca, in the Mediterrean, Monday.
Dressed in a blue shirt the Spanish queen, an experienced sailor herself, boarded yhe spedboat 'Somni' to get close to the action.
Felipe sailed in 'CAM' with the Olympic champions Kiko Sánchez Luna and Fernando León. At the Real Club Náutico de Palma he met with the club's president and the president of the organizing committee of the Copa del Rey.
The start was slightly delayed because of the lack of wind, but than Felipe and his crew successfulkly took to sea. Felipe was not the only royal participant in the sailing regatta off the coast of the popular Spanish holiday island.
King Harald of Norway too the helm of his boat Fram XVI, and was visibly enjoying the competition. King Juan Carlos, who in previous years skippered the 'Bribón'', had to skip this year's races due to his health. Doctors thought his participation would be too streneous after the king underwent lung surgery early May.
