Princess Máxima is at home in Villa La Argentina, a holiday village of 15,000 at the foot of the Argentine Andes mountain range. She has been visiting this resort ever since she was four years old. No wonder she wants her husband Prince Willem-Alexander and their daughters Amala, Alexia and Ariane to get to know the area too.
"It is important to come here, it is a part of Máxima's, of who she is, and we should get to know this place too", Willem-Alexander explained at the start of the Christmas break during a photocall at the provincial governor's residence El Messidor.
There was a relaxed atmosphere during the short meeting, where Dutch and Argentine photographers, reporters and cameracrews mixed. Afterwards Máxima and Willem-Alexander answered some questions, telling their daughters really had been looking forward to this vacation. Amalia couldn't wait to go horseback riding, one of many activities scheduled for the two week stay in Máxima's native country.
The Dutch royals have been coming regularly to Villa La Angostura, where Máxima's brother Martín lives and runs a very succesful bistro. In 2007 Queen Beatrix joined them for the Christmas holiday, and in 2009 (Argentine winter) and in 2010 the family stayed in the town as well. © RB; Photos by © RPE Albert Nieboer
