"All we can do is pray", the pastor of Lech said. And pray they did. The inhabitants of the Austrian holiday village Lech turned out in great numbers to pray for Dutch Prince Friso on the day marking one year since his skiing accident near Lech.
The second son of Queen Beatrix was swept by an avalanche while skiing outside the marked skiing routes and suffered severe brain damage as a result of his heart not beating for 50 minutes. He is being cared for in a hospital in London.
The Dutch royal family also was in Lech Sunday but decided not to attend the Mass in which the special prayers for Friso were said. "Understandable", pastor Jonko Müller said in his opening remarks. Friso's wife Princess Mabel decided to stay out of the public eye on this 'sad and black day'. Müller in his prayer wished her 'strength and courage' to face up to the tragic fate that has befallen her family. © RB
