King Juan Carlos of Spain reappeared in public for the first time in 49 days as he welcomed, the winner of 2012’ Miguel de Cervantes Prize, to the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid. The Spanish monarch who recently underwent back surgery said he was ready to start working again soon.
King Juan Carlos was joined by Queen Sofia and had an amiable meeting with the 86-year old winner of Spain’s and Latin America’s most prestigious literary award. After meeting the royal couple José Manuel Caballero Bonald had lunch with Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia.The prize will be presented Tuesday at the University of Alcala in Madrid, in the presence of Felipe and Letizia. King Juan Carlos who usually hands out the award is not fit yet to do so. © RB
