To mark King Willem-Alexander’s succession to the throne, more than 1.5 million children at 7,500 schools in the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean will be engaging in sports and exercise together on 26 April. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) has given its permission for the organization of this special day. The King’s Games will replace regular lessons.
Willem-Alexander and Máxima - soon to be King and Queen - will travel to the eastern Dutch city of Enschede to inaugurate the Games which have as common thread 'Together'.
Each school is free to decide for itself what form the King’s Games will take. Indeed, schools are invited to be as creative as possible in organizing the King’s Games, the organising Committee led by former Wimbledon winner Richard Krajicek said. The schools that prove to be most creative will have the chance of winning a personal meeting with king Willem-Alexander and queen Máxima.
