The Austrian village of Lech commemorated the death of Dutch Prince Friso during the traditional open air Mass on the occassion of the Catholic holiday of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven, August 15. Some 1,000 people attended.
It was while skiing in Lech that Prince Friso, at the time aged 43, was hit by an avalanche which left him without oxygen for 50 minutes. He remained in a state of 'minimal consciousness' for well over 15 months and passed away Monday August 12, 2013 as a result of the accident.
Lech has held the Dutch Royal Family always close to heart. The royals have been guests for over 60 years, and Prince Friso too was well acquainted with its mountains.Pastor Müller during the service spoke of Friso's love for the Alpine mountains.
