Lech, Austria - The Dutch royal family likes to holiday without interference from paparazzi. In return for the promise of peace and quiet during their two-week stay in the Austrian Alps, they pose for pictures at the beginning of their vacation.
Sunday morning at ten the royal family showed up on the slope of the Lech Children's Ski School for the annual meet with the press. Queen Beatrix was there, was the families of her sons Willem-Alexander and Constantijn.
The grandchildren of the Queen were on familiair turf so to speak; they have taken their first skiing lessons here in years before - the picture shows Princesses Alexia and Amalia.
Amalia had great fun in the merry go round!
This year even more photographers and televisionscrews came to Lech, the grandchildren of the Queen are getting used to the attention - pictured are countess Eloise, count Claus-Casimir (children of Prince Constantijn) and princesses Alexia and Amalia.
The only one not very happy in the cold, was the youngest of them all, Princess Ariane - born in April 2007. She had a cold didn't sleep well and cried during most of the session. ,,She is sick", mother Máxima explained.
The help of Prince Willem-Alexander and grandmother Beatrix was not enough to silence the young princess.
Alexia showed two faces Sunday. Determined she stepped out on the snow, soon to start crying because the snow was cold. Willem-Alexander helped her with her gloves.
"She does like the snow", the Prince said of his middle daughter, "but it is still early. It takes getting used to", he said - on the picture a determined Alexia with sister Amalia, and countess Eloise behind.
Queen Beatrix divided her time equally between the families of her sons. Here she is posing with Constantijn, his wife Laurentien and their three children Leonore, Claus-Casimir and Eloise - the eldest of the Queen's grandchildren.
Prince Constantijn, the youngest son of Queen Beatrix, and his family participated in the photosession for the second year running. But only Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima spoke to the press afterwards.
Queen Beatrix underwent knee surgery at the end of 2005. Last year she started skiing again, with a brace around her knee, Prince Willem-Alexander explained. "She is skiing like she always did", he added.
