Princess Mabel is one of the speakers at a seminar of the new think-tank European Council on Foreign Relations, which is held in The Hague on Monday. Topic of the meeting is the recent report of the Council "A New Paradigm for EU-Russia Relations".
According to the Council one of the great challenges ahead for the European Union is to find a new basis for its relations with Russia. There have been few attempts to hide the fact that relations at the moment are in a bad state. However, in the report a cogent argument is made for the EU having to overcome its internal divisions first.
Princess Mabel, wife of Dutch Prince Friso, second son of Queen Beatrix, attends in her capacity as International Advocacy Director for the Open Society Institute.
Other participants are Martti Ahtisaari, UN Special Envoy for the Future Status Process for Kosovo and former President of Finland; Gijs de Vries, Senior Fellow at the Clingendael Institute and former EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator and Mark Leonard, ECFR's Executive Director and co-author of "A Power Audit of EU-Russia relations".
