The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester completed their four day visit to the Solomon Islands on Wednesday. The royal couple departed by private jet via Brisbane after an official farewell by the Governor General, Prime Minister and the British High Commissioner. Hundreds of locals were also present at the airport to farewell the Royal couple, the Solomon Times reports.
The visit had been quite a success and had left many memories with both the dignitaries and locals especially. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester visited the Solomons Parliament on Tuesday, where they were welcomed by the Speaker of Parliament, Sir. Peter Kenilorea.
They were then presented with traditional shell money necklaces, before the Duke gave a brief speech. He stated that 30 years ago when he represented the Queen for the handing over of Independence from England, he was very much newly married and Solomon Islands was one of his first Royal duties.
"The most important lesson is that, one can achieve more when working with others. I am well aware of the great honor that has been shown towards my royal visit to the Solomon Islands country," said the Duke of Gloucester. © GPD; Source: Solomon Times
