Prince Kardam of Bulgaria remains in ‘artificial coma’ and is ‘sedated’ according to a doctor’s statement from the ’12 October’ hospital in Madrid, as reported by Spanish media. His clinical situation is said to be ‘stable’. There has been no change in his status during the past 24 hours (as of Monday).
The 46-year old Spanish born Prince, eldest son of former King and ex-prime minister Simeon II of Bulgaria, suffered a brain-scull trauma and multiple fractures in both hands, which have been immobilised according to doctors.
His breathing and vital signs have improved, according to Galiya Dicheva, spokesperson of King Simeon, the Sofia News Agency reported Monday.
She said Kardam's entire family was in the hospital while his father's press center in Bulgaria continues to receive letters and phone calls expressing the support of many Bulgarians for the royal family.
According to Sofia News Agency the condition of Kardam's wife, who travelled with him when their Jaguar on Friday August 15 collided with a tree outside Madrid, and overturned, is stable.
The Spanish Royal Family, which is out of Madrid at the moment, is said to be following the developments ‘with great interest’ and concern. For the moment no member of the royal family intends to travel to Madrid to visit the wounded in hospital.
