Bulgarian media reported on Wednesday that high speed was most likely the reason for the car accident in which Prince Kardam, eldest son of former King Simeon II of Bulgaria, and Kardam’s wife Princess Miriam were seriously injured last Friday.
The report is said to be based on the preliminary conclusions of the Spanish police investigation. Daily newspaper "24 Hours" claims Prince Kardam failed to reduce the speed right before the crash. On the road were no skid marks from his Jaguar.
The crash happened on a very dangerous stretch of the highway A-1 in direction of Madrid. The stretch is called the "dark hole" and has a speed limit of 100 km/hour. Kardam's alleged speed has been at least 150 km/hour, according to the Sofia News Agency, Novinite.
Kardam's condition remains unchanged. Spanish media meanwhile reported Wednesday that the ambulance that arrived at the crash scene has been robbed while the paramedics were helping the princely couple. © GPD
