Buckingham Palace says that Queen Elizabeth II will visit Slovenia and Slovakia in October. The palace announced Thursday that the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, will fly to Slovenia on October 21, and then travel to Slovakia on October 23.
The queen will be visiting both countries for the first time. Slovenia gained its independence after breaking with Yugoslavia, Slovakia separated in a 'velvet divorce' from Czecho-Slovakia. Both former communist countries are now members of NATO and the European Union. Slovenia introduced the common currency euro in 2007, Slovakia follows suit in 2009. © RB
