Princess Margarita de Bourbon de Parme has given birth to a healthy daughter, the private secretary to her mother Princess Irene of the Netherlands announced on Thursday morning. The first child of Margarita and her husband Tjalling Ten Cate was born on Wednesday September 3rd in an Amsterdam hospital.
The little girl weighted in at 3325 grams and was named Julia Carolina Catharina.
For Princess Irene, sister of Queen Beatrix, it is her first 'official' grandchild; her eldest son Prince Carlos fathered a son out of wedlock, Carlos Klynstra born in 1997. Princess Margarita wed Tjalling Ten Cate on May 3rd in a private civil ceremony on a large estate near Utrecht. The wedding was attended by her godmother, Queen Beatrix.
The Queen and most of Margarita's royal relatives had stayed away when she wed Edwin de Roy van Zuydewijn in 2001. The couple was ostracised by the royal family - both Dutch and Bourbon-Parma - and heavily critised the family for doing so in a series of interviews.
