Princess Christina of The Netherlands is accused of ‘immoral conduct’ by Dutch lawmakers who condemn her for - legally - depositing her money in a trust on the Channel Island of Guernsey. "Lawful it might be, but is undesirable behaviour", an uninformed MP of the Dutch liberal party VVD said. "It smells of tax evasion", a socialist MP claimed. Princess Christina, who currently lives in London, decided to set up a trust after extensive consultations with financial experts in the Netherlands and Britain. They also consulted with the tax authorities in both countries, to make sure everything was done in a legal and transparant way. In fact, the Princess went beyond of what is required. The Dutch state also did not lose out in taxes because the princess was not actually living in Holland. The members of parliament were themselves accused of meddling in private affairs, as the princess is no longer a member of the Royal House, and no longer responsible to parliament for her actions. © GPD; Photo by © Royal Press Europe, Albert Nieboer The Dutch government defended the 61-year old Princess, youngest sister of Queen Beatrix and since her marriage in 1975 no longer in line for the Dutch throne. ,,She has done nothing wrong, on the contrary", the Dutch deputy secretary for Finance De Jager said in parliament.
