Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet wrapped up a three day State Visit to the Netherlands and left from Rotterdam Airport to France, Wednesday. Earlier she had visited Wageningen University, accompanied by Queen Beatrix and Princess Máxima.
President Michelle Bachelet sought to strengthen economical, cultural and educational ties with the Netherlands during her visit. She also visited Leiden University and the port of Rotterdam, through which most of Chile’s exports to Europe pass.
President Bachelet was praised by Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende at a luncheon in The Hague medieval Knight’s Hall, which was also attended by Queen Beatrix, Princess Máxima and Princess Margriet.
The Chilean President, whose term in office end next year March, hosted an evening of music at The Hague’s Diligentia Theatre, Tuesday. Before the performance she briefly posed for pictures with members of the Dutch royal family.
Queen Beatrix had welcomed her guest at Noordeinde Palace on Monday. That same evening she spoke warmly of the friendship between the Netherlands and Chile in her toast at the State Banquet.
