Belgium’s Prince Laurent and his wife and children were hurriedly taken off Italy’s island of Sardinia and flown back to Brussels after Laurent, 45, fell seriously ill.
The youngest son of Belgium’s King Albert and Queen Paola, was taken to a hospital on Saturday and after spending the night, decided he rather be treated in Belgium.
At first it was thought Laurent had contacted swine flu. On the return flight to Belgium he and his wife Princess Claire and their three children were asked to wear protective mouth caps, Belgian media reported Tuesday.
Doctors at the Brussels hospital diagnosed the Prince with a severe pneumonia, requiring him to stay a couple of days in the hospital. The prince was released from the hospital on Wednesday. © GPD
