Dutch Prince Bernhard, grandson of the late Dutch Queen Juliana and eleventh in the line of succession to the throne, escaped serious injury when he was involved in a car crash at Circuit Park Zandvoort, Saturday afternoon.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Most likely the Prince got in a slip because one of the cars ahead of him had driven through the grass next to the track and had thus brought water on it.

The Prince’s Ford Mustang FR 500 had to be towed into the pit, with Prince Bernhard, 39, escaping from his smashed car mostly unharmed, but shaken. Bernhard, who is a keen amateur race driver, participated in the first heat of the Tango Dutch GT4 championship’s race.
Bernhard’s younger brother Prince Pieter-Christiaan, also a race driver for Racing Team Holland in his spare team, watched the accident from a distance. Because of this weekend’s race at Zandvoort both brothers are not attending the wedding of their cousin Bernardo Guillermo in Brooklyn, NY.
