Prince Willem-Alexander, heir to the Dutch throne, and Princess Máxima are also in the Big Apple to mark the 400th anniversary of the ‘discovery’ of New York (Nieuw Amsterdam) by Dutch employed Henry Hudson in 1609. They will be officially welcomed to the city by Mayor Bloomberg and U.S. Secretary of State Clinton on Tuesday.
According to well informed sources in The Netherlands the Dutch royal couple will also meet with President and First Lady Obama during their stay in the United States. The meeting, which has yet to be officially announced, is scheduled for the end of next week. Michelle Obama will be the host, with the President just popping in, to avoid problems of protocol.
Other members of the Dutch royal family are also likely to attend the wedding, which will be performed by a Dutch priest who is a friend of the groom’s father. Princess Margarita de Bourbon de Parme, her husband Mr Tjalling Ten Cate, Princess Annette, Prince Maurits and Princess Marilène and Prince Floris and Princess Aimée are believed to be in New York as well. The Dutch court has not released a guest list. © GPD; Updated 1.19 PM
