Luxembourg’s Grand Duke Henri will attend the funeral of his half uncle Prince Alexander of Belgium, a spokesman for the royal family confirmed to Royalblog.nl. Other members of the Luxembourg royal family may be present as well, it was announced in the grand-duchy.
The late Prince Alexander, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, was a half brother of the late Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Belgium, who married Prince Jean of Luxembourg in 1953. Josépine-Charlotte, daughter of Belgium’s King Leopold III and sister to Kings Baudouin and Albert II, is the mother of present Grand Duke Henri.
The Belgian court corrected an earlier statement saying Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz would attend the funeral Friday at the royal church in Laeken, near the royal palace. The princely couple are in Colombia and will not be back in time.
