Prince Albert II of Monaco intends to “establish a home and have children” quickly after marrying Charlene Wittstock, he said in an one hour televised double interview with France 2, Monday.
"We intend to establish a home and have children (...) I think we've taken the time to make that decision", Albert said. He marked the 5th anniversary of his formal accession to the throne on Monday.
Charlene Wittstock, speaking in English, she was not faced by the pressures of protocol and the attention of the tabloid press. She was “excited” and “not afraid”. “One talks about a life, it is not a competition. I hope to be ready”, Charlene said.
Prince Albert also talked about his projects and plans for Monaco. He said his character is more geared to concilliation and kindness than his father, but in the end decisions still have to be taken. "Mon caractère qu'avait vu mon père, était plus dans la conciliation, la bienveillance. Il y a un moment où il faut prendre ses décisions”.
He denied that Monaco is a tax haven. "Monaco does not correspond to what defines a tax haven. We met all international requirements in regard to money laundering, but also in terms of international taxation with the signing of agreements with 23 countries of the OECD.”
The principality is not only the palace, the casino or indeed luxury tourism, Albert said. “There is more, economic reality, social, cultural and sports life that should be brought more to the front.” © GPD
