Vacationers on the Swedish island of Öland, off the coast of Kalmar, celebrated Crown Princess Victoria’s 33rd birthday without the birthday girl herself.
Only for the sixth time since her birth on July 14, 1977, Victoria is not on the island to mark her birthday. And she has a good excuse: she is on honeymoon after marrying Daniel Westling on June 19.
Svensk Damtidning found that Victoria missed only the celebrations for her 3rd, 4th, 13th, 14th and 16th anniversary traditionally held around the royal summer residence of Solliden. The public is welcomed to the palace gardens, where the princess makes an appearance with her parents and receives flowers and presents.
Integral part of the festivities is also a charity concert in nearby Borgholm, for the benift of the Victoria Scholarship. Prince Daniel made his first appearance last year, after he and Victoria got engaged.
The concert still went ahead, with King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, and Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine, according to local newspaper Barometern.se .
Prince Carl Philip handed out the scholarship to Swedish olympic cross country skier Charlotte Kalla, who won gold in the 10km individual for Sweden at the Vancouver Olympics, and silver in the team sprint. © GPD
