The drama and pain were palpable Friday as Luxembourg's Hereditary Grand-Duke Guillaume led his fiancee Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy to the Church in Frasnez-les-Anvaing in the Belgian provincie of Hainaut for the funeral of her mother, Alix, Countess De Lannoy.
The Luxembourg grand-ducal family supported young Stéphanie who is to wed Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume in October. The sudden death of a stroke of Stéphanie's mother last Sunday will cast a shadow over the day.
Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa along with Princes Félix and Louis and Princess Tessy attended the funeral service. Belgium's dowager-queen Fabiola and Princess Mathilde were present as well.
The Luxembourg Court announced the royal standard would be flown at half mast over the Grand-Ducal Palace in the capital and over Berg Castle, the royal residence.Alix, born Faille della Leverghem, married Count Philippe de Lannoy in 1965.
