Dutch Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima boarded the royal train at Amsterdam Central Friday evening to travel over night to Austria, where together with their daughters Princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane they will start their skiing holidays on Saturday in Lech am Arlberg.
According to the monthly magazine Royalty the Prince had promised his daughters already last year that theu would travel by train to their favourite holiday destination. The prince himself held good memories of the train trips he took with his parents in the seventies. The plans though were thwarted at the last minute as Prince Friso was hit by an avalanche while skiing near Lech. His brothers rushed to Austria, by plane and not by train.
The princesses were happy to join their parents on the train - in fact just a luxury carriage, joined to the Dutch winter holiday Alps Express, which will deliver them in Austria mid morning on Saturday.
Queen Beatrix arrived in Lech on Monday; her youngest son Constantijn and his wife Laurentien and their children are also in Lech and the queen on Friday made a brief return trip to London to collect Friso's wife Princess Mabel and their two daughters Zaria and Luana. © RB; Photos by © RPE Albert Nieboer
