Prince Laurent of Belgium has been taken to Innsbruck’s University Hospital after he collided on Tuesday with another skier while skiing near the Austrian town of Lermoos.
The youngest son of King Albert and Queen Paola is held for observation and tests a hospital spokesman said. Laurent suffered internal bleeding but he is not gravely wounded as reported earlier by Austrian newspapers.
There was much confusion about the condition of the Prince earlier Wednesday. A report in the local Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper caused alarm in Belgium. A palace spokesman debunked the story, but got the facts wrong.
The accident did not happen Monday as the palace said nor was Laurent already released from hospital as stated. Princess Claire told reporters who reached her by phone her husband was doing well, but refused to elaborate.
