King and Queen of Belgium & Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia going to Rome

The King and Queen of the Belgians will attend the intronisation of Pope Francis on Tuesday 19 March in Rome, the Court announced on Thursday. Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo will accompany the royal couple.

The Spanish Court meanwhile announced that the Prince and Princess of Asturia - Felipe and Letizia - will represent the Spanish King and Queen at the inauguration of the new Pontiff.

It is to be expected that Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, who on Thursday sent extensive congratulations to the new head of the Catholic Church [ Download Sa Sainteté François 1er - félicitations.p df], will also travel to the Vatican.

Liechtenstein and Monaco will no doubt also be represented by their monarchs. The non-Catholic monarchies have yet to announce who will attend the Mass. © RB
