Amalia, as the 9-year old Princess is usually called, is well aware of her future role, her father disclosed in a television interview last week. She has even asked him when he expects her to succeed. But with her new position as ‘Princess of Orange’ there will be little changes in her daily life Willem-Alexander said. “We will shield her from public view.”
Amalia needs to have a ‘normal’ childhood, without public appearances or royal engagements. “She has to discover herself, to discover who she is”, her father said. “If she does not know who she is, she can never work in the service of others.” The princess and her two sisters Alexia and Ariane will only accompany their parents on very special occassions, the King-in-waiting indicated.
The inauguration is one such event, the newly minted King’s day next year might be another and they will continue to take part in the twice a year photo calls, at the beginning of the Winter and of the Summer holidays.
