Tilia x europaea 'pallida. A lime. King's lime. Koningslinde. Many names for just one tree, planted by Prince Willem-Alexander as future King of the Netherlands in a small neighbourhood park in the Transvaal district of The Hague. The tree marks the accession of Willem-Alexander, who succeeds his mother Queen Beatrix in less than a week's time.
The tree in The Hague is the first official royal lime tree planted in the Netherlands, although other towns and cities have already received theirs. The tree planting to commemorate the start of a new reign goes back many years and various organisations made sure this time was no exception. © RB; Photos by © RPE Albert Nieboer
