Prince Pieter-Christiaan finished his 3rd London Marathon Sunday in the British capital. It was the 15th marathon in all the Dutch prince ran.
Pieter-Christiaan is the third son of Princess Margriet - younger sister of Queen Beatrix - and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven. He is married and has two children. The prince, unlike his elder brothers Maurits and Bernhard, is no longer in line of succession to the throne.
It was hard, Pieter-Christiaan, said afterwards. He had a jump start, felt good after the first 7 miles, but started to suffer from the heat midway. It was like being in a Turkish steam bath, and it slowed him down. 'I knew I could forget about a new personal best', he said.
In the end it was a matter of just sheer endurance. He finished, and was happy he did.
Prince Harry watched the 36,000 runners and showed his support. There was never any question of not coming to the event, he told the BBC. "Everyone that was planning on coming is still here. No one's changed any plans." © RoyalblogNL Hans Jacobs; Photo: Archives
