To mark the 400th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Sweden, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands have invited the Swedish royal couple for a visit. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will come to the Netherlands April 4 and 5, both royal courts announced Monday.
The Netherlands was the first country in which the Swedes opened an embassy. They signed an agreement with the Dutch States-General on April 5, 1614. The Netherlands at the time was still fighting for independence from Spain but already acted as an independent Republic. © RoyalblogNL; Photo: Swedish Court
