Princess Carolina of Bourbon-Parma and her husband have not yet set a date for the christening of their daugther Alaïa, a spokeswoman for the Bourbon Parma Royal Family has said.
She responded on behalf of the Princess to a report in a Belgian royalty magazine which claimed the baptism had already taken place. Alaïa Maria Irene Cecile was born May 20 in Zürich, Switzerland.
In fact Alaïa, a Basque name meaning ‘joyful’, is not the only one of the now six grandchildren (all girls) of Princess Irene of the Netherlands still awaiting her christening.
Princess Zita of Bourbon-Parma, named after the last Empress of Austria, herself a Princess of Bourbon-Parma, is still not baptised either. She was born in February to Prince Jaime of Bourbon-Parma and his wife Princess Viktória.
Zita’s parents are preparing to move from the Netherlands to Rome. Prince Jaime has been appointed by King Willem-Alexander to represent him at the Holy See. The Prince will take up his position as ambassador later this year.
In preparation for his posting at the Vatican, Prince Jaime, who has worked in Brussels, Iraq and Afghanistan, met with the Bishop of Roermond on Wednesday, in a meeting to get acquainted with each others work.
