The King and Queen of Spain will pay an one day visit to the Netherlands, the Dutch Government Information Service announced Tuesday. The visit, scheduled for October 15, is a courtesy call of the new sovereigns of Spain, and follows similar visits to the Vatican, Portugal, Morocco and France.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will be calling at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, where they will be hosted by their Dutch counterparts King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. They will be served lunch before travelling the short distance to the Dutch Prime Minister's Office and a meeting with the presidents of both Chambers of Parliament.
The visit follows the pattern set by the Dutch King for his introduction or courtesy visits last year, with 3 or 4 whistle stops in a single day. The Belgian King Philip, who visited The Hague last year November, did the same. King Felipe will also visit Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy, Spanish media reported.
The Spanish and Dutch royal couples have been good friends for years. Felipe and Letizia visited Willem-Alexander and Máxima a couple of weeks before the Dutch Crown Prince's inauguration as King, a ceremony they attended as well.
When Willem-Alexander and Máxima paid a visit to Spain last year September, Felipe and Letizia welcomed them at the military air base and Felipe personally drove the royal visitors to the Zarzuela Palace for their meeting with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. Queen Máxima caught up with the Spanish royal couple only 2 weeks ago in New York.
