Dutch media briefly went in overgear Thursday as Argentine papers La Nacion and Clarín carried on their websites carried the news of the passing of Jorge Zorreguieta, 86, the father of Queen Máxima.
The reports were given credibility as the queen only last weekend made a 24-hour cross ocean dash to her native country to visit her father in a clinic where he was being treated for leukemia. La Nacion cited sources close to the family for its report, which was not confirmed by the Dutch Court.

The clinic issued a statement via social media denying the report. Mr Jorge Zorreguieta was released from the clinic and was staying at home, just a few blocks down the street. His youngest daughter Inés added that her father was ill, but in stable condition. La Nacion withdrew its initial report and carried the news of the family’s and clinic director’s denial.
Dutch media retracted their posts as well, explaining they had reason to trust and believe the earlier Argentine reports. Queen Máxima on Thursday had two public engagements, and has two more on Friday before leaving for China on Sunday.
