Belgian Queen Mathilde attended the National Conference on Financial Literacy at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, Wednesday. The meeting was part of the Global Money Week and the European Money Week and was initiated by the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA).
Queen Mathilde once again, as has become customary by now, availed herself of the use of a wheelchair and of crutches to get around. She injured her knee during her recent skiing holiday and is wearing a brace. The palace said she would keep her agenda, but the only adjustments being the installation of a special ramp for the wheelchair at the Egmond Palace.
The queen listened to a presentation of a study into the need for financial literacy of vulnerable groups in Belgium. There was also special attention given to pilot projects in schools, where youth learn how to handle money. Mathilde, like Queen Máxima in the Netherlands, has supported initiatives that promote and encourage financial literacy among children and youth.
