King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima honoured the Dutch victims of war and conflict during the National Act of Remembrance at the National Monument on Dam Square in Amsterdam. In commemoration of those who gave their lives for their country, or were killed during the war, the royal couple placed at wreath at the foot of the iconic monument.

The Netherlands annually commemorates on 4 May the war dead with a ceremony at the Nieuwe Kerk and a wreath laying in Amsterdam and 2 minutes of silence across the country. Cities and villages too hold their own ceremonies, and in Amsterdam there is at the same time also a commemoration at the Homomomument.
