Expressive painters like Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch called for bold colors. Queen Sonja of Norway and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands did not disappoint Wednesday at Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum, where the two royal ladies inaugurated the new exhibition Munch : Van Gogh. It was a repeat act. In Maythey both opened the same exhibition in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
Both Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and Edvard Munch (1863-1944) are known for "their emotionally charged work, their innovative style and their troubled lives." The artists are often compared to each other, and the Norwegian and Dutch museums joined hands to display their works side by side.
The exhibition brings over 100 works of art side by side, including iconic masterpieces and rarely loaned paintings such as The Scream, The Sick Child, Madonna, Patience Escalier and The Bridge at Trinquetaille.
